Hecate, the scent for Samhain! Hecate, the goddess of witchcraft, moon magick, crossroads and keeper of the doorways to other places, is associated with Samhain and is also known as the Queen of Witches and the Queen of the Inbetween. So much power! So much magick!

The protective plants and bits of nature that make up the base of this blend (see my Vampire Mist) already hold a lot of the same energy that Hecate brings. Peppermint, Lemon, Patchouli, and Cedar. Dragon’s Blood, Smoky Quartz, and Bloodstone.

The Base:

Peppermint and Lemon are the first to show up in this scent and are followed by a lingering and heady mix of Cedar and Patchouli that makes me feel like a night walker of dark forests. All of these oils were chosen for their cleansing and protective energy.

Along with protecting us, Patchouli also helps us build self-confidence to stand our ground and hold our boundaries. Lemon and Cedar have been used for millennia to create and maintain sacred spaces. Peppermint gives us a stimulating boost in energy and perspective that is so often needed after feeling drained.

Inside your roller, I’ve added Smoky Quartz, Bloodstone, and Dragon’s Blood. Smoky Quartz is powerfully grounding. It brings us back to the present moment by drawing light down from our crown chakra to our root chakra. Bloodstone protects and grounds by helping to ease any confusion caused by your energy vampire, while also giving your intuition a boost. Dragon’s Blood resin gives a powerful protective energy that has been used for centuries as a banishing ingredient. It has a beautiful swirl as it starts to break down in your potion.

For Hecate:

And since I love to work in threes, especially for the triple moon goddess, I brought in three more specific associations of the goddess Hecate: Cypress, Moonstone, and an Oak “torch”- all in a darkly-tinted bottle that conjures ancient rituals.

Cypress, a tree symbolic of death, regeneration, and the underworld, is often associated with the goddess. Moonstone, in honor of Hecate, goddess of the night and female power, offers calming protection, a deeper intuition, and insightful divinations on the full moon.

The last bit of magick is an Oak “torch” in the form of my lightning-struck Oak that adds power to any spell or ritual. Hecate is often seen with torches, which she used to light the way for Demeter when she was searching for Persephone.
