Theia, the Perfume
My scent for Litha is Theia, the “wide-shining one”, eldest daughter of Gaia, mother of the sun, and goddess of sight and shining. It’s she who gives gold and silver their luster and attraction. And she is the namesake of my Litha perfume, that now comes in shiny, shiny gold bottles that better suit her.
Theia (pronounced Thay-a), is the very first seasonal perfume I created during a time of self-discovery. Of saying no to things that were expected of me and from me. From big things like where I should live or what I should do with my body to smaller things like what perfume should be.
And this scent brought me out of my shell. I created it. I loved it. I felt like a shining beacon of what’s possible in it. I channeled the sunny days of the Solstice and originally named it Incandescent, lit from within.
It takes a while to figure out what scent will bring out what’s already inside you. I personally love bright citrus, sensuous flowers like Jasmine, and heady scents of Vanilla, Tonka Bean, and Sandalwood. Complexity, just like us.
We can be many things all at once. Mother, daughter, sister. Maiden, goddess, crone. Bright, heady, sensuous. Fire and water. Adventurer and homebody. This scent inspires a hopeful confidence, an alluring surety, a power that radiates out from inside.
A dark organic Jojoba oil was long and slow-infused with Sassafras root and Tonka Bean for that Vanilla scent. I added Hibiscus flower and Lemon Verbena from our garden for that bright tartness. To that came essential oils of Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang, Jasmine, Lemon, and Tangerine. Warm, bright, mysterious.
There’s even Citrine inside to keep us shiny and joyful and full of creativity!
