Golden Egg

Gabbro

Sand Dollar Talisman

The Beach Witch Box! Full of spring magick and toes in sand, just like the spring breaks of my youth.

The first homage is this Golden Egg that was giving me a mix of warm sand and shorebird egg vibes. It made me think of that time we came across Seagull eggs in the sand.

Inside this egg, you’ll find a little taste of my hometown. There’s a nest made from Spanish Moss, which drapes over everything in Charleston.

In the nest we have an Everlasting flower that was grown back home and gifted to me. There’s also a piece of sea glass, that is very egg-y in shape and vibe, which I found on those beaches.

And lastly there’s a nesting bird waiting for you! A Pink Opal bird to be exact. Pink Opal is used to bring us back into a state of balance, perfect for the Equinox and these days we’re in. It is used to calm the body and emotions, leading us into a deeper state of compassion that spills over into community.

Next is Gabbro, a beautiful, green-flecked stone I find on the beaches here in Northern Michigan.

Gabbro is related to Basalt. But where Basalt cooled near the surface quickly, making it very fine-grained, Gabbro cooled very slowly, very deep in the earth’s oceanic crust, giving its green crystals time to form, nesting within the Basalt.

This green is called Olivine. Magnesium-rich Olivine has long been believed to be one of six minerals needed for life to emerge in our universe. It’s even found in lunar rocks and meteorites.

Basalt offers strength, security, and a deep connection to the earth. All of which are utilized during times of change and transition.

This union of Basalt and Olivine makes Gabbro a perfect stone to represent birth, rebirth, creativity, transformation, and new opportunities. It is used to break negative thinking cycles and to help on the journey to create new chapters in your life.

Sand Dollar Talisman! In keeping with our sandy vibes, here is some magick straight from my hometown beach, found during Ostara!

One of my favorite memories from childhood is finding pieces of sand dollars on the beach, and sometimes an elusive whole sand dollar! We’d play a game where we had to say how much of the dollar we’d found. So a small piece may be 36 cents or a larger piece 74 cents.

I was excited to realize this season that sand dollars are marked by 5 points! Just like a witch’s protective five point star. And then I remembered that inside those 5 points are 5 white birds!

Yes, if you crack open a sand dollar, nesting inside, you’ll find little birds. Now, there’s a story about them being peace doves, but I always thought of them as shore birds, obviously.

And the Tern is a delightful, white shore bird. Terns have been used to symbolize safe returns. This arose from the fact that they never spend the night at sea. Fishermen and sailors would follow them, knowing they must reach land soon.

I love the idea of always returning. I love the idea of being a symbol of perseverance, of “almost there”.

I’ve topped the sand dollar with a little nod to The Greening and to give it a bit of stability. Keep it as is, or break into it to reveal your waiting birds.

There’s also a little homegrown Amaranth and Dulse I found on the beaches of Maine. Amaranth helps heal relationships and was used as an offering in ancient rituals in Central and South America, where it was believed to be brought to us from the Otherworld.
