I am so happy to share my solar balm for the solstice: St. John’s Wort! It’s red, sun-soaked, potent, and topped with a shiny piece of Citrine for some extra sunny, joyful energy.

Me and the littlest started this “potion” at the start of last summer. We snipped the flowering tops off of wild growing plants and added them to our oil. And I said, “We have to wait. But if the magick works, our potion will turn red.” And it did! We foraged and fed our jar often over the course of the summer, since this is an oil that requires fresh blooms. I can’t say how special it was for me.

St John’s Wort has been historically used in rituals concerning renewal, transformations, and women’s mysteries. It’s a beautiful way to reveal shapes in the different fossil stones I have in the shop as well!

St. John’s Wort has amazing healing properties. Wonderful for nearly any skin condition and a bolster to dark moods. For centuries, Saint John’s Wort has been used to protect against negative spirits or entities. It can be used to anoint ritual tools, yourself, and your sacred spaces.

It’s the perfect balm for all sun rituals. I drew a protection bind rune on the top of the shiny, gold container. A bind rune is the combination of runes for a particular purpose. Like building a spell. For this one, I combined runes for protection and security with the astrological symbol of the sun.

What’s a ritual balm? Of course you can use any of my balms for skin healing, nourishing, and protection. But they have also been crafted to be used in ritual. Apply your balm before quiet times, after bathing, or before rituals to prepare yourself for the moment and invite in that specific energy. You can also use the balms to anoint candles and apply herbs, just like you would a consecrating oil.
