Petoskey Fossil : Found & Lightly Tumbled
The name “Petoskey” comes from a native word meaning “rays of the living sun”, and you can see why in the design. Petoskeys are coral that lived in warm shallow seas that covered Michigan during Devonian time, about 350 million years ago when it was near the equator and land plants and amphibians were starting to take their hold on our world. We’re able to find them today thanks to glaciers and tectonics!
Magically, Petoskeys have been used to protect from all forms of negative influence. The “all seeing eye” aspect of the coral’s design is said to strengthen the third eye. This makes it useful to use during shadow workings, channeling, and times when your psychic abilities and intuition need to be boosted. They help bring to the surface emotional areas that need tending, helping us to let go of unneeded limitations, expectations, or burdens.
Fossils represent the cycle of life, time, evolution, and change. Because of their link to the past, they are used in past life work, ancestral healing, and in the release of old paradigms. They have been used across time and cultures to strengthen telepathy and clairvoyance, to aid in astral travel, and to connect to ancient ways. They are also used as talismans for protection.
Lithomancy, divination using stones, is an old form of magic dating back to at least the 800s. You can use your fossil as you would any other crystal or you could practice a little Lithomancy.
