Jacobsville Sandstone : Found
Sandstone! After another lovely deep dive into Brighid for the Imbolc season, I learned that she is also considered to be the goddess of Sandstone formations! And we have these amazing and unique Sandstones right here! But not just any Sandstone, Jacobsville Sandstone, which is only found in this Northern Michigan/Lake Superior area.
It wasn’t surprising to me that Brighid is associated with Sandstone after learning about the energy of this stone and how it has been traditionally used.
These stones are anywhere from 550 million to 1 billion years old and were formed with sand, Silica, Quartz, Iron, and Feldspar after major lava flows and tetonic shifts. So boss.
Withstanding the tests of time, Sandstone has been used as a symbol for resiliency and strength, stability and balance. A perfect helper for the Midwinter. With these strengths, it is used to bring calm and peace in times of stress, change or upheaval.
It is used as a grounding stone that can give us mental clarity and ease by connecting us back to the moment and activating our root chakra. It’s a beautiful friend for times of meditation and ritual.
It’s this grounding nature that lends it to be used to strengthen relationships and the communication happening in those relationships. It promotes a stability that allows for cooler heads, truth speaking, and reconciliation.
The inclusion of iron or manganese oxides give these wonderful stones a lovely range of color from cream to brown, pink to red, and sometimes even purple (which I have as an extra large altar piece!).
Sizing:
+ Altar Size: large enough to be a decorative and powerful piece.

+ Ritual Vial: these are tinier pieces that are perfect for magical crafting, like when making candles.
