Pink Granite : Found & Tumbled
“This morning, I found a piece of granite, pink and speckled like a fish’s belly.
When I hold it, magma pools in my thoughts, crimson in a deep well of unrecorded history.
How odd that the fiery cradle of this stone is now linked to my own soft hand.
How perfectly like this world.” Jarod K. Anderson
Pink Granite. It’s my stone for Imbolc. I find a lot of beautiful granite where I live, but not much with pink in it. I believe the seed of a memory of this poem brought Pink Granite and Imbolc together in my mind. Deep in the earth, fire, and softness.
Granite is the oldest igneous rock in the world. Like 300 million years old! It is created deep in the earth, slowly over thousands of years. The pinkness in this Granite is called Orthoclase, a Feldspar mineral, which is actually common in moon rocks!
Granite strengthens the root chakra, which is also highlighted during Imbolc. This strengthening offers a stabilizing effect to our own energy. When our footing is sure, we are able to see the big picture, without negativity, but with a healthy perspective. The White Fir I use at this time of year offers the same magick.
The Orthoclase in this Granite offers hope. This hope comes through clarity during dark times and a clearer path that leads in a more positive direction.
I learned that ancient Mayans revered Granite and used it as a stone of protection. It’s considered a “guardian stone” which also aligns with Brighid and hearth magick used in this season.
