Bonefire Incense Holder: Large Bull Bone
Bonefire Incense Holders are back, but this season we’re using cow bones!
Part of Brighid’s lore in Druid mythology is that the goddess, when an infant, was fed milk from a sacred cow from the Otherworld. And even Saint Brighid is known to be the protector of cattle! With all the creamy goodness of this holiday, I love that’s there’s this sacred connection to cows as well.
And that inspired a special collection of my Bonefire Incense Holders for Imbolc: Cow Bones!
If you’ve been around for a while, you’ll know that I use deer vertebrae for this project usually. And they are lovely and graceful, just like deer.
These cow bones are heavy, sturdy, bigger, and definitely hold a different energy than the deer bones. It’s wild how you can just feel the difference.
So, bonefires? Yes, bonefires! Sacred fires were once kindled with bones for power, protection, and sacrifice. The cattle would be led through the smoke of these sacred fires to bless and protect them for the year. Another cow connection!
So I’ve reimagined what a bonefire could be. Bones that HOLD fire… and smoke.
