Bonefire Incense Holder

Bonefire Incense Holders: Yes, bonefires! Sacred fires were once kindled with bones for power, protection, and sacrifice. The cattle would be led through the smoke of these sacred fires to bless and protect them for the year. Hearths would be cleaned out and built anew with these sacred flames.

I’ve reimagined what a bonefire could be. Instead of starting fire, how about holding fire? Bones that HOLD fire… and smoke. These incense holders are the small vertebrae of a deer that I found after a winter melt. Months of cleaning and setting them out in the sun and they were ready to be painted with a gold 8-point star for The Wheel.

Deer bring a graceful and adaptable energy into our lives, which is especially balancing for these mid-spring days of passion.
