Balm of Gilead. Cottonwood. For Healing and Ritual.
Made from the not-yet-opened buds of the glorious Cottonwood tree, Balm of Gilead is a lovely pairing for the Vernal Equinox. The scent is like something straight from ancient times. Like sweet resin, incense and fervency.
The famous healing properties of this fragrant balm are staggering. It’s antibiotic and anti-inflammatory. It’s wonderful for sore muscles, arthritis, headaches, swelling, eczema, bruising, wounds, and so much more.
Magically, Balm of Gilead can be used in preparation and during all rituals. It is a sacred scent that has been used to consecrate. It is often used when communicating with other realms, as it is believed to draw friendly energy and spirits. It has also been used to draw love and to aid in forgiveness within intimate relationships.
Balm of Gilead has many other magical uses to add to its staggering medicinal, healing uses. It has been used to dispel jealousy in others, to help with reconciliations and opening hearts, and to aid in manifestation work.
Balm of Gilead is made from resinous early Cottonwood buds. Cottonwood is be sacred to the elvish goddess Nienna. She is the goddess of joy and sorrow. Memory and forgetting. She is the goddess of The Dark Moon, guardian of souls moving on or passing between worlds. Endings and new beginnings. Balance in all things.
The balm is topped with a Norse rune for protection.
What’s a ritual balm? Of course you can use any of my balms for skin healing, nourishing, and protection. But they have also been crafted to be used in ritual. Apply your balm before quiet times, after bathing, or before rituals to prepare yourself for the moment and invite in that specific energy. You can also use the balms to anoint candles and apply herbs, just like you would a consecrating oil.
